Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's initial efforts at fame in the mainstream were unsuccessful, with two record labels signing and subsequently dropping her before she had any new material released. Capitol Records did release Perry's Ur So Gay, which attracted a small amount of attention because of its humorous title. I kissed a Girl, a confident tribute to her fascination with sexuality set against a hard-edged electronic-pop beat, gained a greater sensation a couple of months later. Many critics accused the track of encouraging homosexual relations, while others claimed that the song's raunchy lyrics were intended to attract male fantasies. I Kissed a Girl became a worldwide number-one hit because of its mix of titillation with a polished melody. It also helped her sell a number of albums, including the album One of the Boys. Hot N Cold, Perry's energetic and sharply-tongued record with the second single that became a hit, also was a hit. The album which Perry wrote herself, sold over three million copies.
